Feille, Patricia Hindmarsh
March 17, 1925 – January 13, 2020
Born the only child to Francis Cecil Carter and Ethel Clare Hindmarsh, in Adelaide, Australia, Patricia Hindmarsh Carter Feille, 94, of Austin, Texas was the ultimate representation of a quintessential lady. Born to a family of aristocrats, her great, great grandfather was Sir James Dowling the second Chief Justice of New South Wales. Her father worked with her grandfather in Moree, Australia and had several stores from New South Wales to Alice Springs, where she lived until she was 2 ½ years old.
The family moved to Adelaide and to Sydney when she was 4 years old. She lived in Sydney until she met Edward Albert Feille, Jr., on April 3rd 1943. It was a whirlwind courtship and romance as she became engaged on April 7th and married on May 17th.
At 18, Patricia traveled on a Swedish ship across the Pacific Ocean in the middle of WWII. She docked in Vancouver then took a train to Los Angeles to meet her husband. She was bold and adventurous. She was blessed with 3 beautiful children between 1944 and 1946, and managed to travel all over the world with them during her husband’s extensive military career.
They lived in Midland, San Angelo and San Antonio in Texas, Louisiana and Ohio, and in 1947, they were stationed in Panama. After Panama they lived in Tucson, Arizona and then the family moved to Australia in 1950 until Edward was called back to military duty because of the Korean War. In 1951 they were transferred to Germany then to Morocco, and in 1955 they moved back to San Antonio. In 1957, she moved to San Bernardino after Edward retired from the Air Force where she kindled her interest in artwork.
To the surprise of the entire family, in 1961, she was told she was expecting her fourth child, and, despite that, she received her AA degree, with honors, from San Bernardino Valley College in 1969 in Painting and Costume design, while taking care of three teenagers and a young child. She was amazing! If you were to see any of the garments she made, you would see the great attention to detail and perfectionism that allowed her to pursue college while maintaining her family and home at the same time.
In 1973, they moved to Carlsbad, California, where Patricia continued her career in Art, taking classes at Mira Costa College and enjoying her tenure as President of the Carlsbad Oceanside Art League. Patricia was a prolific artist whose beautiful watercolors and collages grace the homes of many people across the nation. She won many awards for her artwork.
In 1990, they moved to Austin, to be near her youngest daughter. She was a member of The Waterloo Watercolor Society, and while residing in Georgetown, Texas from 1993 to 2006, she was a member of the Williamson County Art Guild and oversaw the art gallery in downtown Georgetown.
She moved back to Austin in 2006, where she lived until her passing. One of her greatest pleasures was reading. She never met a stranger in her life, and her countless recollections of her travels and adventures charmed everyone that she had the pleasure to meet. Mah Jong was also a favorite of hers and she played avidly with her friends and family. Patricia was also a member of The Daughters of the British Empire, and a Daughter of the King of the Episcopal Church.
And because her birthday was on St. Patrick’s Day, we always celebrated with gusto! Gathering all of her friends and family each year will be a wonderful way to honor her for years to come.
Patricia is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edward Albert Feille, Jr. of San Antonio Texas, and her son Edward (Ted) Albert Christopher Feille.
She is survived by her daughters Patricia Anne Bowler, and son-in-law Bill Bowler, Margaret Clare O’Neill and son-in-law, Ted O’Neill, and Carol Feille D’Avila.
