Randy Charles Doering died on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Washington Hospital Center after collapsing at his home in Silver Spring, MD. Born on April 8, 1951, he was the son of Carl and Dolores Doering of Georgetown, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan (Anglin) Doering.
He is also survived by his mother Dolores, his brothers Danny (Charlynn) and Steve (Leslie) Doering, his brother-in-law Chuck (Debbie) Anglin, sister-in-law Nancy (Tim) Howell, 9 nieces and nephews, and 15 grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Carl J. Doering, and sister and brother-in-law Sylvia and Joe Coulter.
Randy was born at Georgetown Hospital in Georgetown, Texas and graduated from Georgetown High School in 1969. He was President of the High School Band his senior year, playing the Baritone. That fall, Randy went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, eventually transferring to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where he earned his Business Administration degree in 1974.
Upon graduation, Randy moved to Austin to work for the State of Texas, then relocated to Corpus Christi serving the Rio Grande Valley as an auditor of nursing homes and pharmacies. In 1976, Randy came home to tell his family he had decided to join the Navy and “see the world.” He served honorably as CPO1 (E6) from April of that year to August of 1984. During those years, he was stationed in Pensacola, Florida; Reykjavik, Iceland; Rota, Spain; and at NSA.
Upon his discharge, he put the skills he had learned in the Navy to work over the next 37 years in IT support, computer testing, and system administration for Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, and J. Craig Venter. Following retirement, he and his wife Susan, continued in his desire to see the world traveling to Europe,
Australia, and New Zealand as well in their RV across the United States and into Canada.
Randy loved his family, traveling several times a year to visit them in Texas, hosting mixed grills at his home, and generously giving to his nieces', nephews', grand-nieces', and grand-nephews' college funds. He also consistently supported charities such as Habitat for Humanity, and Unwed Mothers Upbring in Georgetown, TX.
His love for his family was almost matched by his love for sports, especially any team in Texas, a challenging golf match, and the NCAA basketball tournament. One thing the family could count on when visiting Randy was a game of some type playing on the TV. Randy will certainly be missed for the way he enjoyed good food, a good sporting match, and quality time with his family.
A viewing will be held at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, MD at 9 am on November 3, 2023 followed by a service at 10 am at DeVol Funeral Home, and burial at Parklawn Memorial Cemetery in Rockville, MD at 11:30 am.
