Born on February 7, 1966, in Lubbock, Texas, Sara was the loving daughter of Celestino M. and Esperanza Olivarez Ortega. After graduating from Idalou High School, she pursued her passion for helping others, earning a degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994.
Sara's life was a testament to love and selfless service. She cherished her family above all else and was an ardent supporter of her alma mater, the Texas Longhorns. Her greatest joy and proudest achievement were her two wonderful children, Daniel and Serena, who were the light of her life.
Sara's lifelong spirit of adventure guided her throughout her life, fulfilling a childhood dream to see the world. As a young girl, she dreamed of visiting Disney World and the Great Wall of China, a pair of aspirations that she would one day realize. Her passion for exploration didn't end there; she created irreplaceable family memories on cross-country road trips, driving across the continental United States at least four times with her husband and children.
Sara was diagnosed with IPF on September 12th, 2024. Despite facing the devastating challenges of IPF, Sara remained a fighter until the very end, pursuing her wish to receive a lung transplant and extend her life with her loved ones. In her final selfless act, she became an organ tissue donor, continuing her legacy of helping others even after her passing.
Sara is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Rangel; her children, Daniel Rangel and Serena Rangel; her Mother Esperanza Olivarez Ortega, her siblings, Judy and Sam Mendez, Mary and German Alanis, Paul and Pam Ortega, and Trina and Marshall Mosty; and many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Celestino M. Ortega.
