Shawn Michael McGinnity, born August 19, 1999, entered heaven October 29, 2009. Shawn was our happy middle stepping stone of a child born in the middle of two brother, Justin, twelve, and Grant eight. He will be greatly missed. Shawn tried to stay with us for over two years, but his brain tumor proved to be too much for him. He was the apple of his parent’s eyes and now he is the arms of his heavenly Father. They will deeply miss him. He will be remembered for making memories out of every day activities such as eating strawberries, chocolate shakes, Friday night tacos, and playing games. We will also miss his great smile and generous and kind heart for others. He had such a joy for life and lived everyday full of happiness and love. He was an excellent student, a good leader, and he especially loved his teacher Mrs. Lee. One of the best ways to describe our Shawn is he has such a free spirit he would be the one who would run and do a cannonball into the pool without a thought of the temperature of anything. He would pop up with a smile and laughter. Shawn was only ten years old, and will be greatly missed by his parents, Mark and Laura McGinnity; his two brothers, Justin and Grant; maternal grandmother, Merle Burleigh; paternal grandparents, Mike and Shirley McGinnity; uncles, Dan and Tim McGinnity, Louis Guevara, Gordon and Matthew Burleigh; and aunts, Kathy Guevara, Heather Burleigh, and Carolyn Crosby; along with many cousins and friends. Shawn never knew a stranger. Shawn’s parents want to thank all of their wonderful friends and neighbors in Berry Creek that have helped share their burden and sorrow and loss. Also thanks to their church and prayer team from Grace Bible Church who gave their time and love to pray and help with Shawn. They also thank the many caretakers who were devoted to the family and care needs of Shawn. Thank you to the many doctors and nurses who were with us in our caring for Shawn’s struggle to be rehabilitated this past two years, in particular Dr. Terry, Dr. Richards, and Dr. Currie and his staff from Christus Santa Rosa Hospital. We are proud to be Shawn Michael McGinnity’s parents. Just deeply deeply sorry we have all had to experience such a loss. We believed God for healing Shawn on earth….but will meditate on what Jesus spoke from Matthew 19:14 “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such of these.” The family asks that in lieu of flowers, they donate to the charity of their choice, or to Christus Santa Rosa Foundation. The family is helping to create a family room for parents on the rehab floor to help others in need with children who suffer from a brain injury. You may contribute online at www.santarosafoundation.org or Christus Santa Rosa Foundation, 343 West Houston, Suite 505, San Antonio, TX 78205, Please mention Shawn McGinnity’s name.
