Teona Gertrude Julia Jasmann Wood

Teona Gertrude Julia Jasmann Buck Wood was born February 13, 1918 in Armour, South Dakota, to Phillip and Julia Mehrer Jasmann, the youngest of seven children. In 1924, when Teona was six, the family moved to Alamo, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley. She attended school in the Pharr-San Juan Alamo district. On October 5, 1934, she married Louis William Buck, who owned a shoe repair shop at 1013 Conway in downtown Mission, Texas. Louis was born on November 14, 1906. To this marriage, three children were born: Leon Clarence on September 12, 1937, and twins, Barbara Jean and E. Darrell on April 28, 1942. They moved into their home at 1010 St. Marie Avenue on January 1, 1938, when Leon was 3 ½ months old. Louis passed into eternal life on December 16, 1971. The Louis Buck family were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, McAllen, Texas and Trinity Lutheran Church, Mission, Texas. Teona married William Ellis (Bill) Wood on April 7, 1973. Bill was born on October 5, 1914 and had lived in Mission for years where he had been a service station operator, a flooring dealer, and a rural postal deliveryman. Teona became a Presbyterian and joined Bill in his church, First Presbyterian, Mission, Texas. In 1974 Bill and Teona sold their respective houses in Mission and moved into a condominium at 601 Hibiscus, McAllen, Texas. On November 15, 1989, Bill passed away. Several years later, Teona downsized and moved into Kruse Memorial Village (assisted living) in Brenham, Texas. Tiring of that style of living, she decided to follow her children into Sun City, Georgetown, Texas, and in October 2006 she moved to 117 Essex Lane. She became a member of The Worship Place (non-denominational) church in Sun City. Teona had been active all her life. She has been involved with various women’s church organizations, she was a church elder, worked in a children’s daycare center, gave swimming lessons, was a bookkeeper, was active with Desk & Derrick, organized groups for activities such as cards and dominos and picnics, swam almost daily, worked in the offices of the City of Mission, and loved traveling throughout the USA and the world. She was a very Christian social person. Teona has had congestive heart disease for several years; that and pulmonary complications brought her down rapidly the last few months. She entered the hospital on May 6, the nursing home on May 14 and left this life with her Lord at 5:30PM on June 9, 2010. She is survived by her three children, Leon, Barbara, and Darrell; two grandchildren, Sydney Marie Buck (Douglas) Hester and Whitney Louise Buck (Jeremy) Ducaine, and one great grandchild, Adele Hester. Surviving step-children are Brad (Leeda) Wood and Lynne Wood (Jim) Day and 7 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great grandchildren; along with many other loving family members and friends. Teona’s cremated remains will be interred at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Mission, Texas. Three Memorial Celebration Services are scheduled: (1) Saturday, June 19 at 2pm at The Worship Place, 811 Sun City Blvd., Georgetown, Texas 78633, and (2) Tuesday, June 22 at 10am at First Presbyterian Church, Mission, Texas and (3) Saturday, June 26 at 2pm at Freidens Church, Washington, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Building Fund of The Worship Place.
