

Surrounded by the people he loved the most in life, Thomas Stephen Sharp passed away peacefully Saturday, June 2, 2018. Born March 31, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio, Tom was known by family, friends and neighbors for his integrity, loyalty, kindness, generosity, patriotism, creativity and genuine concern for human kind. Tom was a consummate leader who lived life with aplomb and dignity. Tom is preceded in death by his parents Millicent and George Sharp and his brother George Sharp, Jr.Tom married the love of his life, Mary Pawling Sharp, on September 14, 1968. Looking forward to celebrating their 50th anniversary in a few months, Tom and Mary were best friends who inspired each other – and their friends and family – with their penchant for having fun, traveling around the world and hosting friends and family at their home in Georgetown, TX. A second red-letter day in Tom’s life was May 10, 1971 when his son, Patton M. Sharp, was born. Tom loved Patton deeply, and he adored Patton’s wife, Kendall Petty Sharp. Nothing made Tom’s eyes light up with pride more than talking about or spending time with his beautiful granddaughter Emma MacKenzie Sharp. When the younger Sharps moved to their neighborhood a few years back, Tom and Mary were ecstatic to have “the kids” around the corner.A proud Buckeye, Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business from Ohio State University in 1966. He earned his MBA from University of Northern Colorado in 1976. He served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army, working in the Finance Corp for the 1st Infantry Division and the 25th Infantry Division for almost 23 years. He served in the Army’s Exchange Program in England from 1976 to 1978. After retiring from the Army in 1989, he worked as an instructor of leadership in the business development department at the University of Texas. He later joined the Texas Guarantee Student Loan program as Director of Training, retiring in 2006. After retirement, Tom immersed himself in the Georgetown community, his neighborhood and golf. He developed a profound camaraderie with members of the Berry Creek Men’s Golf Association, and he enjoyed every minute of time spent with his golf course buddies. He served on the board of directors of Berry Creek Country Club, and he was a mentor at Williams Elementary School. He volunteered for various organizations and events in Georgetown.Tom was a person with a vision, and he created a legacy for making things better. For instance, in 2012 he persuaded a few of his neighbors on Oak Tree Drive to decorate their front yards with live Christmas trees. By the Christmas season of 2017, more than 100 residents had beautifully decorated trees in their yards, making the neighborhood a holiday lights attraction. Several times the Sharps hosted a Christmas Tree party to recruit neighbors to join the holiday tradition. While Tom loved dogs, Golden Retrievers were his favorite breed. He and Mary loved and nurtured several Goldens. Mello will dearly miss their long walks and golf cart rides. Tom was a committed supporter of Gold Ribbon Rescue (GRR). He flew the American flag at his home with pride. Tom will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
