Bill grew up on ranch in Oregon with father William, mother Marjorie, and brothers Bob and Bruce. His father was also a Peace Officer. When he was in high school, Bill’s father passed away. His mother remarried some time later to Oscar Hammericksen, and they all eventually settled, in Eugene, Oregon.
Bill served in the Air Force in the early 1960’s and later travelled to Austin, Texas where he worked as a mechanic until he was hired at the Austin Police Department. He served at The Austin Police Department for 25 years as a Patrol Officer, Detective and Patrol Supervisor. While at APD he also served in The Navy Reserves. He served all with honesty, honor and integrity! It was at APD that he was known as “The Rock”! He was hard working, hard, fair and loved and respected by almost all.
Bill is survived by his wife of 47+ years, Sgt. Karen Alexander. He is survived by his brothers, Bob and Bruce. He is also survived by his daughter Marjorie and husband Jody, daughter Debra Wooten, daughter Phyllis Lean and daughter Yvonne and husband Robin. He is also survived by many grand-kids and great grand-kids.
Bill was my anchor. We butted heads and made up and carried on. He fought the good fight. I will always love and now dearly miss you “My Beloved Bonky.”
With love,
Mrs. Bonky
