William Miles "Bill"Lee 85, passed away on October 28, 2014 at the Wesleyan on Scenic Drive. He was born January 28, 1929 in the yellow house located at 7th and Myrtle Street in Georgetown, Texas of William Cecil and Inez Sansom Lee. He was the third generation born in Georgetown. At an early age Billy attended the First Baptist Church (now Main Street Baptist) with his grandparents Dick and Mae Sansom and often talked much about his Sunday school teacher Elmo Sherman. Other memories he talked about was being a Boy Scout and the love he had for his Scoutmaster, Uncle Dick Dixon and his wife Coco, and going to Camp Tom Wooten. Billy Miles was very proud of Georgetown, going to Annie Purl Elementary and the old Georgetown High School located on University Ave. Being an ace football player for GHS, he graduated in 1946 and was granted a scholarship from Coach Medley to attend and play for Southwestern University, but the football program had ended and the Korean War had begun. Bill was in the Army Reserves before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he was trained and served as a combat medic. Returning from service to Georgetown he attended college on the G.I. Bill. He had a successful finance and insurance career, first with Commercial Credit, and the next ten years with Met Life. But most memorable were the thirty years spent with Henna Chevrolet in Austin, Texas. While working for Mr. Henna he was honored with many awards and trips. Bill met his wife Billie Lunsford from Cameron and they married on October 15, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Georgetown. In between working Bill played in movies and making TV commercials, but most of all he liked playing Ranger A.W. Grimes in the Sam Bass shoot out in Round Rock for over twenty years. Bill also played in the Sam Bass Theater plays like "The Saga of Sam Bass", "Annie Get Your Gun" and many more. Billy was a Master Mason, belonging to the San Gabriel Masonic Lodge # 89 and received his 50-year pin on August 28, 2013. Being an active member of the Ben Hur Shrine Temple in Austin for years he played the bass drum in the Drum and Bugle Corps. Retired and returning to Georgetown, he began to play golf at Georgetown Country Club where he played as a boy. He also worked in car sales at Don Hewlett Chevrolet as well as working in the Southwestern Golf Pro Shop until it closed. Bill is survived by his wife Billie of 60 years; two daughters, Charlotte Raley of Georgetown, Darwa McFarland and son-in-law Bruce; one granddaughter, Gavra Shane Hancock and husband Eric; four grandsons, Travis Lee Raley, Mace Alan McFarland and wife Brenda, Adam Wayne McFarland, Will Avery Raley and wife Krystal; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hiller, Keegan, Faith and Adalyn McFarland, Logan and Tayler Hancock and Mikah Raley; sister, Evelyn Everett and brother-in-law, Wilford "Cotton" Everett; sister-in-law, Flo Leach; honorary daughter, Nona Shanklin Mauldin and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to Marvin Lackey, Jim and Julie Arnold, Harry Sharp, Ray L. Sansom, and Jack Perry. Billie, Charlotte and Darwa all want to thank the staff at the Wesleyan Nursing Home and Hospice for all their kindness and compassionate care for Daddy, especially to Michael Turner and Mr. Tubbs. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown, TX.
