

William S. Lott of Georgetown, Texas passed away at age 90 on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. Born in Clarendon, Texas on April 28, 1918, to Hervey and Fannie Warren Lott, he grew up in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ellagene Eanes Lott, his brothers, Vestal, Warren, and Harold Lott and his sister, Marjorie Lott Davis. He received his law degree from University of Texas Law School in 1940. He then served in the Army during World War II in the Security Intelligence Corps. Bill and Ellagene married in 1944 and made their home in Georgetown. He served as Assistant County Attorney in Williamson County and spent six years as Assistant to then Attorney General of Texas, Price Daniel. In 1966 he was the Attorney General’s appointee to the State School Land Board. Prior to being elected State District Judge of the 26th Judicial District in 1976, he maintained his private law practice in Georgetown. Judge Lott served 16 years as a sitting judge until he retired in 1992. He continued as a visiting judge for a number of years after his retirement. Judge Lott was awarded Man of the Year in 1979 by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and honored by having the William S. Lott Juvenile Center named after him. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1952. Judge Lott was also selected as a Fellow by the Texas State Bar Association in 1984. He was past president of the Williamson County Bar Association and given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Georgetown Area Community Foundation. As an active participant in the community, he was member of the Masonic Lodge for more than sixty years, Georgetown Rotary, and Lions’ Club. Judge Lott has been on the boards of the Wesleyan Home, United Way, American Cancer Society, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, the Georgetown Citizens’ Advisory Committee and was a former director of the First National Bank in Georgetown. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown and served as trustee. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Lott Durr of Austin, his son, Bill Hervey Lott and wife Gisela of Durango, Colorado and their sons Ryan Travis Lott and Neal Brandon Lott and numerous nieces and nephews. Those who wish to pay their respects to Judge Lott may do so at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 14th between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
