He was born on February 26, 1942, in Los Angeles, California to the late John G. Mena and Mary M. Mena. He graduated from La Puente High School in 1959. On May 27, 1960, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth M. Mena in Los Angeles, California. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He and Elizabeth raised three girls and one boy; and he was a grandfather to three girls and five boys.
He worked as a furniture maker at Morris Furniture until 1988, then went to work for Home Depot as a kitchen cabinet designer in the city of Monrovia until he retired in 2008. He loved NASCAR, Boxing, NFL – the L.A. Rams, Westerns and annual vacations with his wife.
Alex is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his three children Joy Mena, Alex J. Mena and his wife, Mary; Candace Moreno and her husband, Lalo; grandchildren Larissa Morris and her husband Jeremy, Ryan Lyle, Jacob Lyle, Robert Mena, Alex Pelayo and Aaliyah Rosales; great-granddaughter Kayden Morris; sister MaryJane Lopez and her husband Steve. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth A. Mena and grandson Joseph Lyle.
A Sunset Chapel for Alexander will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Oakdale Mortuary, 1401 South Grand Ave, Glendora, CA 91740. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 17, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1401 South Grand Ave, Glendora, CA 91740. A burial will occur Friday, September 17, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 12:20 PM at Oakdale Memorial Park, 1401 South Grand Ave, Glendora, CA 91740.
