She was born Barbara Ellen Good on November 4, 1931, the youngest of five children in Lebo, Kansas to Pastor and Mrs. Melvin Good.
While in college in Emporia, Kansas, Barbara or “Bobbie”, along with her best friend Doris and friend Ruth, wrote a round robin letter, which included Doris’ cousin Bob serving in the army and stationed in Korea. One day only Barbara received a letter from Bob. They corresponded through letters until March 1952 when Bob came to Matfield Green, Kansas where Barbara was teaching school. It was love at first sight.
Robert Guisinger and Barbara Good were married October 4, 1952. They resided in Iowa until 1957 when they moved out to California. Within a decade they became a family of seven, two sons and three daughters. And because family was their priority, Bob & Barbara would only go places they could take all five children.
Barbara loved children and dreamed of being the best teacher she could ever be. She accomplished this in her earlier years as an elementary school teacher, then throughout her middle years as a mother of five, as well as babysitting others, continued teaching and touching many little hearts and lives in church ministry, followed by her later years of teaching to her grandchildren. Many hearts have been touched and young souls saved through this godly woman who introduced them to Jesus Christ.
Among the many lives she touched, Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Robert;
daughter Patricia and her husband Richard, and their son Steven and his wife Melanie;
son Steven and his wife Susan, and their daughter Kirstie;
son Richard and his wife Cheryl, and their son Aaron, daughter Annelise, and daughter Alicia and her husband Jack;
daughter Susan and her husband Karl, and their son Joshua and his wife Eileen and their daughter Callie; and their daughter Karen and her husband Jason and their son Wyatt and daughter Charlotte;
and daughter Sandra and her husband Joe, and their son Keith and daughter Rebecca and her husband Scot and their daughter Alexa.
She leaves her husband after 58 years of marriage, five children and their spouses, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Though raised by a Methodist pastor and godly mother, Barbara didn’t begin her personal relationship with Jesus until 1971. Over the years she would continue to grow in Him as evidenced by her worn Bibles filled with notes, her prayer journals, and her personal letters. Her love for the Lord was seen in every aspect of her life.
Even near to her last days, afflicted with Alzheimer’s, she still knew her Lord and her husband. At the age of 79, on Sunday, February 6, 2011, our Lord welcomed her home.
Barbara described her own mother as "very special. Oh, how she loved the Lord and gave of herself – never thinking of herself.”
Barbara, you are very much like your mom and we know even now you are rejoicing together in heaven.
