On Friday, January 24, 2025, at 3:41 p.m. in Diamond Bar, CA. God was reaching down from heaven, and Clifton Everett Glass was reaching up when God called him home. He was 85 years old, 6 months and 17 days.
Clifton was born on July 7, 1939, to Oscar and Catherine Glass in Schulenburg, Texas. Clifton received his formal education in Schulenburg, attending and graduating from J. A. Greene High School. He accepted Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age at Independence Methodist Church in rural Schulenburg, TX.
Clifton moved to Los Angeles, California around 1958 and lived with his brother Artis Glass Sr. He united with St. Stephen Baptist Church in La Puente, CA, where he served in the Male Chorus, Golden Circle, and other duties in the church. He actively participated in The Gideons International, where bibles are distributed around the world.
After moving to Los Angeles, CA, he began working at the Los Angeles VA Hospital. Then he started his lifelong passion and career in automotive with his cousin Elwin Jarmon, Jr. in LA. He was employed by several automotive dealerships: Los Angeles Ford, and West Covina Chrysler Dodge. He then decided to be an entrepreneur and became the founder, owner/manager of The A & A Speedy Transmission and Clifton’s Continental Automotive Service in Covina, CA. He enjoyed attending accredited automotive seminars on the weekends to learn new techniques in auto repair. He was known as one of the best transmission repair specialists in the area.
While working at Los Angeles VA Hospital, Clifton met Mary Ruth Gaither and on Feb. 23, 1968, they were joined in holy matrimony. To this union, they created a beautiful, blended family - one child was born, Troy Oscar Glass, five stepchildren, Pamela Eileen Lowery-Graham, Allen Frank Gaither, Jr., Michael Lane Gaither, Bridgett Gaither, Beverly Lewis and bonus son, Cleveland Jones. They spent 55 years laughing and creating a lifetime of wonderful memories. They enjoyed traveling, dining, entertaining guests at home, and spending time with the kids, camping, and fishing.
Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar & Catherine Glass, his wife, Mary Ruth Glass in 2023, stepson Allen Gaither and stepdaughter Beverly Lewis, his brother Artis Glass Sr, and his only nephew Rev Artis Glass Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: five children, son, Clifford Wayne Glass (Carolyn) of Schertz, TX; stepdaughter Pamela Eileen Lowery-Graham, San Bernardino, CA; stepson Michael Lane Gaither (Maxia) of Pomona, CA; and son, Troy Oscar Glass (Stephanie) of Barstow, CA; stepdaughter Bridgett Gaither of Las Vegas, NV; bonus son, Cleveland Jones of Chino Hills, CA; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one niece, other loving family members and friends.
