
Born on April 10, 1920 in El Campo, TX, died in Bakersfield, CA on Feburary 3, 2011, Don Madsen is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clara, a son Steven, a daughter Karen, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and one sister, Adeline Turner, of Moreno Valley, CA. Don grew up in Corona and Colton, California, and received his Bachelors degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He served in the Navy for 3 years at the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, discharged honorably in 1943. He then began his career as an educator in Corning, Colton, and Glendora, California. He continued his education at the University of Redlands where he was awarded an MA in Educational Administration. He taught English and History for many years, then moved into administration when he took a position at Citrus Union High School District in Glendora. When Glendora High School was built, he was chosen to be its first Principal in 1962. He served as Principal for two years, then took an administrative position with Citrus College District until he retired in 1982 as Vice President. After a brief absence from education, Don returned to teaching and continued to teach for another 13 years at Citrus College District. During these years, he also spent time traveling the world with the Citrus College Singers with his wife Clara as chaperones. The inurnment service was held at Oakdale Memorial Park and Mortuary in Glendora.
