Family moved to Los Angeles in 1950 and then to Lawndale.
Gary learned printing in high school and found he liked it. He worked in the high school print shop after school and during the summers.
He also worked at gas stations.
At some point after high school, he went to work for Westline Products in Los Angeles. He worked for them until he went into the Navy in February 1963.
He was in the Navy until April 1967. He continued his printing career in the Navy as a Lithographer. He was stationed on the USS Constellation. He was honorably discharged with an E-5 rank.
After his discharge he lived in Lawndale and went back to work for Westline Products as a Production Manager.
In 1977 Gary fractured his back while tobogganing in the snow. He was forced to take several months off work to heal. It was then that he purchased a printing press and began printing envelopes in his garage. He told Teri he would print far into the night and then go out during the day and sell more jobs.
As his business increased, he moved to his own building and his business grew to what we all knew it to be.
Gary was a member of the Irwindale Chamber of Commerce and elected president in 2002. He was presented with Business of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 2001 and Business Man of the Year in 2000.
During this time, he became involved first with the Irwindale Lions Club in 1980. He has held many offices including President a number of times, Vice -President, and Treasurer. Later after retiring from his business, he became more involved with District 4-L2. He has held many committee positions as well as, Zone Chair, Region Chair, 2VDG, !VDG, and District Governor 2019-220
Gary’s motto was always “We Serve Better Together”
He loved to serve others from behind the scenes.
Loved classic country music.
Teri’s memories
I knew the minute I saw him in December 1987 that I was going to fall in love with this man. He was and always has been everything I ever wanted. We loved hard and we fought hard, but I can’t remember any of them. We never gave up. In the end we talked about our years together. We were able to express our love for each other and what those years have meant. Those memories are my best and the ones that will be forever in my heart.
