Joy became one of my dearest friends ever since we first met while working at Maclaren Children's Services around March 1993.  Our friendship continued to grew over the years as we both ended up  transferring to the Covina DCFS office where we worked as field CSW's.  Joy and I were so happy when our Units ended up being next to one another.  That made it possible for Joy and I
to be seated near each other and to become daily lunch buddies along with our friends, Liz and Mattie. The four of us loved to go out to lunch together almost eveyday.   On one occasion, the four of us had gone out to lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant in Covina.  At the end of our meal, the waitress came up to our table and told Mattie that she owed her money.  The waitress said Mattie had walked out without paying the last time she was there. 
 Mattie was in shock and disbelief as she started to giggle from embarrassment.  At this moment, Joy couldn't help herself, she started to smile and was about to tease Mattie when  the waitress looked at Joy and said, "You didn't pay either".  OMG,!! that's when the four of us laughed so hard, we almost ended up on the floor.   Obviously, Mattie and Joy would never not pay on purpose, that's what made it so funny. I still smile whenever I think about that day.  And, of course every time I think of Joy, I always smile because
Joy was also one of the kindest most thoughtful people I've ever known.  She graciously shared her apartment in Las Vegas with two of her co-workers so they would have a place to stay while they earned their Master Degree's in Social Work at the University of Las Vegas.   Joy was also a fabulous Social Worker and she was always my perfect friend.  Joy was so likeable, generous and genuine.  It breaks my heart knowing she's no longer with us in body but Joy will always live on in my heart.  My deepest condolances to her beloved family.
