Kenneth Henry Hanson
April 5, 1938 – August 23, 2020
Kenneth Henry Hanson, was born April 5, 1938 in Davenport Iowa. He married Marilyn Murphy on January 28, 1961. They lived in Iowa City, Petersburg, Virginia (while he served in the US Army, Quartermaster Core); Davenport, Iowa; and West Covina, California.
Preceded in death by: Daughter, Jennifer Leigh Hanson, Parents, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Hanson, Brother, Roger Hanson.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Murphy Hanson; three children, Beth Hanson, David Hanson and Julie Lawrence; four grandchildren, Abigail Lawrence, Dr. Zachary Hanson, Joshua Lawrence, and Michelle Hanson; one great grandchild Scarlett Johnson Hanson; Doug Hanson, (brother), and Kathleen Esterdahl (sister).
Ken majored in Electrical Engineering and began his employment history in Traffic Engineering. He transferred to Southern California with his family in 1971 with Eagle Signal Company of Davenport, Iowa. He also worked for other traffic control companies and was City Traffic Engineer for the City of Compton. After retiring he worked as a consultant for Willdan Corporation.
He loved history and nature. He was awarded a Commissioners Arrowhead Award for service with the Boy Scouts of America while his son and friends were actively involved. He was a member of the City Traffic Engineers Association, and served for a time as President of the City Traffic Engineers Association. When he and his wife retired they traveled extensively and enjoyed most of all being around family and their grandchildren.
