Leonard Beller was one of the most kind, genteel and inspiring human beings I have ever known. He waltzed into my classroom to see what my pedagogy was all about and I knew from the start what type of person he was. He mentioned one of the most favorite vintage storybooks on my book shelf, (The Little Engine That Could)  by Watty Piper, and commented on how he always loved seeing that book in school. Mr. Beller was about details. He was a listening ear for children and his teachers. He had a sense of humor that was simple and jovial. I saw what a supportive father he was to his own family and shared with him the love of music - especially since he had been brought up in a musical family as was I. But moreover, he was just an efficient man. He got the job done as leader of many.  He had creative ideas and wasn't afraid to voice his opinion even if it went against the common grain. I highly respected him for all these things and I realize it is twelve years later, but almost not a day goes by that I don't think of him in some way. The world needs good gentlemen, and he certainly was. I am sorry he left our earth so soon, for I know he loved so many things, including his college alma mater and football. Undoubtedly, he was  the highest calibre of devoted husband and father and that loss must still be felt hard, today.  I am happy to know he is resting in Peace and undoubtedly emanating kindness in Heaven.  Whenever I find myself by the ocean, I think of those whom I knew loved boats, sailing and the sea. And Leonard was one of them. So I remember him with a smile. If you can read this message, Mr. Beller, thank you for your great stewardship of our elementary school:, students, parents and teachers. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Sorrow brings strength we never knew we had and it's this strength that gets us through.  While we all shed tears for the loss, never let yourself stop smiling for the wonderful memories that we can never lose.  We keep those memories in that very special place in our hearts and when we need that person the most, that is when we can go to that special place and pull those memories and once again smile.
