Maria Magdalena Rueda Nuñez was born on May 29, 1970, in Topia, Durango, Mexico. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Filomeno Rueda and Senona Nuñez. Since they passed away shortly after her birth, she was adopted and raised by her mom’s sister Alejandrina Nuñez.
At the age of 7, Maria came to the USA with her mother and sister by adoption. She grew up in Pomona, California, where she lived most of her life, and where she attended Kingsley Elementary, Emerson Middle School and Pomona High School. She later obtained a degree in Drug and Alcohol Counseling from Inter Coast College.
In 1997, Maria married Valeriano Siquiná, her beloved husband of 27 years. Together they had 5 children: Irene, Joe, Valeriano Jr, Vanessa and Viviana and 5 precious grandchildren that she absolutely adored: Nate, Jazmin, Marcellus, Lumina and Emerie. I am sure that all the pictures, stories, and memories of our beloved Maria will live on in our hearts, and in our homes, so that the grandkids and future generations will not forget this amazing woman, the strong example she set, and the spiritual heritage she leaves behind.
Maria was wonderfully kind, compassionate, humble, faithful, ambitious, brave, and exceptionally strong. She was an overcomer in the battle against cancer, and devoted her time to loving her family, friends, and others. She believed in family, faith, hard work, independence, and community, enjoying to the fullest her participation in the homeless ministry, for example.
Maria is survived by her husband, 5 children, 5 grandchildren, her mother, 6 siblings, and tons of nieces and nephews. We will all miss Maria Nuñez Siquiná, and for the many ways in which she touched our lives, we will NEVER forget her!
