Michael Daniel McCabe, 65, of Monterey Park, passed away on January 9, 2026, just one day after receiving his retirement package from a lifetime of dedicated work with Ironworkers Union Local 433.
Born in December 1960 in Los Angeles, Mike graduated from Mark Keppel High School in 1978 and went on to study at the Arizona Automotive Institute. He returned to California to work as a mechanic, where his love for classic cars first took root.
In 1983, Mike met the love of his life, Mandy, at Pizza Chalet in Covina. They married in 1984, and soon after learned they were expecting twins. Welcomed into the Ironworkers Union by Mandy's father, Mike embraced the trade with characteristic determination. He worked far distances, long hours, and every bit of overtime he could get to provide for his growing family. His twin boys arrived in October 1986, followed by a third son in 1991.
Mike was a man who worked hard and loved deeply. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back—if you complimented his hat, he'd hand it right over and tell you, “Happy Birthday kid." He poured himself into raising his sons into the men they are today, and in 2016, he and Mandy moved into her childhood home with a vision. Mike set about renovating it into what he proudly called the "party house"—complete with a pool, patio, and countless upgrades. He took every opportunity to invite everyone over, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and community.
A lifelong enthusiast of classic cars, comic books, and classic rock, Mike restored many vehicles over the years and played bass guitar. He enjoyed a good cigar and the occasional drink—his favorite beer, in his own words, was "cold and on sale."
Mike is survived by his beloved wife Mandy, his three sons, and his three granddaughters, who brought immense joy to his life.
His legacy lives on in the home he built, the family he loved, and the generous spirit with which he lived every day.
