

in San Dimas, California surrounded by her daughters. Nona
was born on March 6th, 1930 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Guy
and Jean Clyde Reed. She was the oldest of 2 daughters.
Nona married Bobby Sizemore and they had a daughter
Diane. In her early twenties Nona, Bobby and daughter
Diane moved to Los Angeles. Nona and Bobby were divorced
shortly after.
Nona met Roy Tonks on a blind date when they were both
employed at Coast Acoustical Ceilings. After several months
of dating, they were married on January 19th, 1956.
After living in West Covina for several years the family moved
to San Dimas where Nona became involved in numerous
community groups. In order to get her 2 middle girls into
Girl Scouts, she volunteered as assistant leader. This began
20 years of volunteer work for the Spanish Trails Girl Scout
Council. In 1968, Nona became historian and then recording
secretary for South Hills High School PTA, which included
making popcorn for the home football games. Nona was also
a member of Covina Woman’s Club and East San Gabriel
Braille Institute.
In the 1980s Nona and Roy became parishioners at
Christ First Covina Church of Covina. For 30 years Nona
volunteered for all types of jobs at the church and served as
leader of the woman’s ministry for two years.
Nona was a voracious reader and had a large library of
history and a particular interest in First Ladies of the White
House. There were also years of research on the family’s
history and traced the family back to the 1600’s with hundreds
of hours of research at libraries, city archives and cemeteries.
Lighthouses were of great interest to Nona and she traveled
extensively, throughout the United States visiting lighthouses
and collecting memorabilia
Nona is survived by children Diane (James) Mackin, Julie
Tonks, Lesli (Michael) Laiola, son in law Barry Koca:
grandchildren Sam (Kate) and Riley (Heather) Mackin,
Nicholas and Laiola, Sequoyah Brightcloud: great grandchild
Quinn and Eva Mackin; nieces and nephews Bridget, Patrick,
Melinda, Lisa, Ann and Brett. Nona was preceded in death
by her husband, daughter Sally and granddaughter Jamie.
The Memorial service will take place on November 10th at
Christ First Covina Church at 200 North. 2nd Ave Covina, CA.
at 11:00 AM with reception to follow. Interment is at 3:00 PM
at Oakdale Memorial Park.
