Dear Tia Olga, Rossana, Aldo & Carina,

I just want you to know that our family is remembering Don Rafa, your wonderful husband and father, today especially on the anniversary of his passing. 

While I’m sure that this day and memories of the loss you sustained this day are painful, please know that many people are out here supporting you and joining you in the memories of such a great person.

Rafael (Don Guapo) was a loving, extremely funny and bright man. I will always cherish the family gatherings with his wit and laughter, the myriad of emails which gave us lots to ponder upon, the love that was evident he showed to you all, his adoring wife, children, grandchildren and extended family/ friends (like me). 😁 I feel privileged to have known him and your entire family, as you are all my family. May the great memories and love he shown upon you comfort you all.

Missing you a lot, always remember your Christmas cards & funny emails. Behind your superb humor was (is) always your good heart of reaching out and I knew your plan to disrupt constantly with harmony, joy, laughter and love. It worked! Thank you for all that and for being you our dear Don Guapo! Sending you my love in heaven. To Tia Olga, Rossana, Aldo, Carina, all the spouses & children: I want you all to know how much I deeply loved/still love your husband, dad, father-in-law & grandfather. I send you all my love, support & encouragement to go on during these dark days, & I weep with you all! May you find a bit of comfort in knowing what he meant to me.  (I suggest you multiply my feelings by thousands for all the people he touched in his 87 years on this earth & all those who will continue to be touched because they knew him.)

There just aren’t enough words to express what my Tio Rafa (otherwise known as el Guapo) meant to me. He was like another dad to me more than an uncle really. With this fabulous man, there was nothing but smiles & laughter when I was in his presence, when I heard from him by card, note, email or call. Every moment spent with him & even spent thinking of him brought so much joy to my life. I was one of the lucky ones to have had the great honor & pleasure of knowing him. 

My memories of Tio Rafa take me back to when I was a very little girl getting tummy aches & crying because he made me laugh so darn hard with his goofy faces, antics & corny jokes. They were the best! 

There he was as I grew up, attending so many special events & milestones in my life. Fast forward to my life as a mom when he attended (with his beautiful wife Olga) nearly every single choir & theatre arts performance my daughter Kirsten performed in from first grade through college!! My heart nearly bursts with emotion just thinking about this commitment & support!

Fast forward again to 7/2/2018, when I lost my dear husband Jim. He was there reaching out regularly with a phone call, cards, notes & even a poem to let me know that he & Olga were there for me & my kids. Wow!

I could go on & on about this wonderful, loving, caring, witty, joyful, positive person, but I’ll stop here. Just know there is so much more in my heart!  RIP dear Rafa! Heaven got a great one in you! 🙏
