Survivors include his wife, Diane Barrett, of Glendora, California; two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Kevin Heapy of Cerritos, California, and Lori and Luciano Gobbo of Chino Hills, California; four step-children Tamaya Wilson; David Kepple of Springville, California; Amber Goins of Tucson, Arizona; and Sharon and Brent Greenlee of Apple Valley, California; grandchildren Nicole Gobbo, Jessica Gobbo, Jacob Gobbo, Adam Heapy, Benjamin Heapy, David Rodriguez, Jessica Ryan, Doug Goins, Eli Goins, Samantha Adams, Suzanna Adams, Bradley Greenlee; great-grandchild Fiona Eckman. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Elizabeth Barrett; step-mother Hazel Barrett; wife Barbara Barrett; and brothers Jack, Ernest, and Bobby Barrett.
Richard was born on March 8, 1936, in Oberlin, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1958 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1958 he moved to San Bernardino, California where he began working for CalTrans as a Junior Civil Engineer in the Survey Department. He advanced through most of the major district departments and was appointed Senior Highway Engineer in charge of design services in 1974. In 1976 he accepted a position with the Automobile Club of Southern California where he remained until he retired in 1996.
A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Oakdale Memorial Park with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard's life.
