I cannot believe it has been 3 years. It seems like yesterday. What a good guy Butch was. And a very competent nurse. If only he had gone to the Huntington or to USC, But we will never know.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Butch.  I was so shocked when I googled his name and  he was passed away.  We're schoolmate in UST, took BSN.  And He was an ex seminarian. Butch was kindhearted person, He teased me a lot that time, He will passed our room when I have class, that time I am an introvert person. Butch was generous,  when I have a vacant time we talked and lent me his book in Sociology.  I was very shy that time, we eat out my first time to went out with him in Cubao. He went to my place in Parang, Marikina but My grandpa was waiting for me and they are very strict especially  my Aunt. I don't know what to do but to let  Him go back because my lolo will see him. That time he continued to court ed me , until My Aunt told me not to talk or go out with anybody. I was so scared that time.  And  I went hiding from guys.  I liked Butch too. And  maybe he was hurt that time because of me.   The rest he went on his way and got married . I was married first because of personal matter going on. Now I am a widowed for 23 yrs.  We've had a chance to chat several times but he was quiet. He was always told me his son.  And this time I dream about him and he is looking at me smiling.  And that's why I googled him and found out He was already gone.  He made me smiled when I was in a deep depression today. Not very late may you Rest in Peace with our creator. Now I can stop of wondering where you are and how are you doing. I missed you.  Sorry about our past. I like you but we are not meant in that time. You are lucky no pain. I don't know the cause of your death.  Will see you soon....

I think of Butch often. I could ALWAYS depend on him whenever I worked with him.  He may not have arrived at work always on time, but soon made up for that. I don't remember him ever saying "no" to me when I asked him to something.

What a shame. I think "if only............."

Now he is  with God saving lives.

My favorite nights in PACU were with you as my charge.  You were the best nurse, best mentor and friend I could ask for. You were such a wonderful example of what a loving, giving and proud father should be. I so enjoyed hearing you boast about your son, the pride of your life!!

We’ll see you again one day, Tito Butch. We love and miss you dearly. 

What can I say about Butchie, except that he was my "Best Buddy", a man I could count on for anything. He was my friend, my mentor,  my sounding board without judgment   my shoulder to cry on, my support, the best PFC and nurse you could possibly hope to work with. Butchie was abrother in every sense of the word, he could make me laugh till I cried. He was the biggest jokester , I  had to always keep a watchful eye, he was always up to something. He could  tease me till I wanted to smack him, and then he'd laugh that contagious laugh  and what else could i do. He would defend me in a second, he was my bestest friend. 

I loved to cook for him, boy that man could eat. He truly enjoyed food. I loved making him little miny fresh homemade breads, at least once a week,  his favorite of mine. He'd sit back in the locker room eating them just as happy as a kid with a treat. At Christmas though, even after I moved up here I made him His All time favorite,  Rum Balls, extra strength.. I would make them fresh, refrigerator overnight and ship next express just for him. (Of course He'd share with Miguel) he send pictures of him eating them, or call me so I could  "hear" him eating, he was just too funny. He never told me his bday was in December,  he told me June. How many cakes I made him and special lunches in the month of June, for years!
The best times we had though were when we would talk about Matthew.  He was always so proud of him. When he was a youngster and all of his interest. When he graduated high school, 
Valedictorian, I remember him bringing in the medal  that Matthew received for this and all of his pictures. This man beaming from ear-to-ear with such love and such Pride for this wonderful son that he had. Matthew, your father was  so very proud of you. He will be with you all along the way as you continue down your path of life You are  His pride & joy . I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss my best friend,  but he will live on in our hearts always. ❤✌😎 🐷

On a personal note I would like to share this: At first I didn’t know if I would be able to write this message. However, once I started writing, I found comfort in coping with my grief, I am glad that I am able to share some memories  and pay tribute to Butch.

In behalf of the family I would like to thank everyone who shared our sorrow in the passing of Butch, for all your, thoughts, prayers and kindness, we’re truly grateful.

We are so shocked and devastated with Butch unexpected passing.  It still feels unreal to all of us, his family.  Butch would have loved to witness Matthew’s graduation from the UC-Irvine with the degree Biomedical Engineering, and we know he would have been so proud as we all are of Matthew. 

We celebrate the life of Butch and remember you not just in our minds, but in our hearts forever. You were a man full of love, strength and encouragement to your family and significant others; and manifested them even in the practice of your profession. The attributes and memories shared by your colleagues to my mind, describes the mark of a true Thomasian nurse and we are very proud of you!

You have always been supportive to the family. To your late Dad and  Mom whom you kept under your wings until the end, to the rest of your brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces  you loved and cared for.

To your son Mathew whom you loved so dearly and gave practically everything in life, your role in his life will forever remain exemplary.

It is painful to lose you now Butch, but God knows what is best. You will always be remembered for the different things that you are and what you have been to all of us. We wish you farewell as you join your Dad, Mom, Francis and the rest of the beloved departed members of the family in the bosom of God Almighty and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We love you Butch and our prayers will stay. . . you have many prayer warriors here.  May you rest in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.

My Deepest Condolences to Matthew, Maria and Family. 

God must have needed a funny, charismatic helper. 

I worked with "Butchie" in PACU at Huntington. He was an excellent Charge Nurse or PFC. You might've thought Butch was  engrossed in his phone but no matter where he was sitting, he was aware of the status of all the patients on the unit. 

Butch was a big 'ole tease and loved to joke with his coworkers.  As previously stated he was also an outstanding nurse. 

Butch taught me that IV drips aren't scary. 

I wish we could've worked together longer.

You may have known and called him as Robert, but for me and some close friends and family, he was Butch - a smart, funny, generous, easy going, caring, sincere best friend I've ever had, and I missed him.
Like some of our friends in here, Butch and I grew up together back home in the Philippines. We were on our teen-age years and I can still vividly recall alot of the (crazy) things we did, and the fun memories we shared. Almost every night, we hung out together with some friends in the wee hours of the night just talking, eating, and singing. Our favorite song  during the 80s was from George Michael's "Careless Whisper". We also tried to learn how to dance (imagine that) and maybe form a dance group. We had a friend who was a dance choreographer so we practiced, alot, to the tune of "Get Down On It" by Kool and the Gang.  After a few years, we both graduated from different universities. Then life got in the way. He migrated to US for work. He tried to stay in touch through phone calls. He also wrote me a letter at times and sent gifts. We had a chance to meet up in 1994 when he was at Connecticut and I was in Atlanta for training but it didn't happen. Then again, life got in the way for a long time. In 2018, thanks to social media, we were able to finally meet with him together with some of our childhood friends at Vegas. It was a blast. We were already scheduling another reunion to be held back home but...
Butch, bro, I missed you, I'm sure you know that. Take it easy and we'll see you next time.

After almost a lifetime, the Project 4 kids meet in November 2018. Old friendships were rekindled and it was as if we were never apart. Best friends never die, they live forever in our hearts...

Butch was an incredible human that I had the distinct pleasure of meeting at Huntington Memorial in the PACU. He had a booming voice and personality.  I thought of him as a big brother. We talked about politics, patient care, music, and food. I liked to bake or try new recipes and take them to work and have Butch try it. If I got an “Mmmm hmmm mmm” I knew I did a good job. We had fun noticing the little absurdities of life. When I worked with Butch, I knew things were going to be okay. I miss that security and strength. His light burns bright in heaven, but I miss my friend. 

I worked with Kuya Butch for 15 years at Memorial Hospital PACU. As a new hired nurse, he took me under his wings. I learned to work with efficiency, compassion and confidence from him.  He has that deep authoritative voice that the most unruly patient would listen and behave accordingly. The news of his untimely demise struck me with grief, we had so many shared memories at work, he used to bring lunch for me whenever he would  cook filipino food, he was a fine cook. He was like a big brother to me.  Last time he texted me was May 19, 2020. Wish that we could bond and chat again, but you left too soon.  I miss you so much Kuya Butch.  Rest in peace..

Butchie, I am so sorry. You were truly a smart, decisive person. You didn't always remember when you were on call, or come to work on time, but when you were there I could always count on you whether I was PFC or worked along beside you.  I didn't have to doubt your decisions or your care. 
    It saddens me that you will not know how much your were loved and admired. I mean truly LOVED. And to miss your son's future. You were immensely proud of him and he will honor you in whatever he chooses to do in life, I hear Dr. Cervantes is in his future. Your sister, Maria and Tess will help guide him through life.

Butch and I were childhood friends in the Philippines.   We just recently got re connected through a common  friend who miraculously found us on Facebook messenger.  The first time we chatted it automatically brought us back to our yesteryears.  I am saddened by his untimely passing  as we had talks of reuniting again.  Butch we will miss you dearly. Thank you for the friendship.  Our deepest condolences to the family.  Until we meet again

mr. butch as i fondly called him, worked with me at nights. whenever we have a barrage of add-on cases in the OR and he was the PFC (patient flow coordinator) in PACU, he was always pleasant to work with. He never gave me/us any attitude even if it was a  crazy busy night. I will miss hearing his modulated tone of voice. Butch was a big brother, a great coworker friend, and a knowledgeable teacher when I was a new grad at Huntington Hospital. He helped me grew up to be a strong nurse like him.  I will miss him tremendously.  May God take good care of his family during this difficult time.

Roberto Cervantes, worked at HMH for many years. All of the people he worked with called him Butch. He was the most knowledgeable,  kindness, reliable nurse-supervisor PACU ever had. He was and will be irreplaceable.  Myself and all PACU Nurses mourn his early unexpected departure from this world. He had a most unique way of respecting the dignity of every nurse regardless of the nurses skill level.
He took it upon himself to teach, coach and help nurses expand their skill level.

My name is Mike Bernardino and I would like to briefly share how Tito Butch played pivotal role in my life. As an adolescent teenager, I was close friends with his son Marc. At the time, they lived nearby and I would often come over their house to either hang out with Marc or share family meals with them. They were always so welcoming. After high school, I was going through financial troubles and they invited me to live in a fourth bedroom they had for free. I was attending college and working a full-time job. One day, as I was leaving for work, Tito Butch asked me what I was going to do in college? I told him I was majoring in marketing but really had no idea what I would do with that degree. He told me, “I have a friend who is a respiratory therapist and he drives a Porsche. They have a program at Mount sac. You should check it out.” Because of my respect to him (not cause of the Porsche) without hesitation, I went to Mount sac the very next day, and signed up for the respiratory therapy program. And in all honesty I had no idea what respiratory therapy consisted of. In my head, I knew that taking advice from him would always help me. It was a very fond memory I have Because not only did it guide me to better pastures, but because I knew he was looking out for my best interest. He was a guide, fun to be around, and always wanted me to order steak while out at restaurants with him. I will miss him dearly and always remember the kindness he bestowed upon me. Rest easy Tito Butch.
