Sheryl Jean Williams Brezina was my first cousin on my mother’s side of the family. There were 8 children, 6 girls and 2 boys in the Horner family. My mother was the second girl and Cleora, Sheryl’s mother, was the 5th girl. She was a favorite of my mother, so I was named Cleora after her. They lived in Covina, California near my parents and grandparents in Baldwin Park. Sheryl had 2 older brothers, Terry and Mike. All our 8 aunts and uncles got together on Christmas and Easter. There were a lot of us. Since I was several years older than Sheryl, we didn’t play together very much until we were older and I was divorced. By that time, she was retired from her job as a teacher. She had to retire because of the mold in the classroom. 

Before the later years when I was close to her, she had a horse and went on long rides with a group of people. She was also active in the community of San Dimas, with things like Meals on Wheels, the Dog Park and was also a volunteer Sherif in uniform directing traffic, and other things. She was very community oriented, having special political shirts made, as well as always giving larger tips to the waitresses when we went out. One special place was the Enchanted Rose Tea Parlour, where we frequently went on birthdays, etc. It was the favorite place when my oldest niece Lynda came to visit from Hawaii. One year, the town of San Dimas planned  a trip to Catalina Island, and Sheryl took me there as a birthday gift for me. I really do miss spending time on the telephone and in person. When I needed to go to assisted living because of my health, I chose a place in San Dimas so I could be near her and see her more. Who would have thought she would go first.  I really miss her. She was special to all who knew her.
