Died: October 3, 2025, Las Vegas, Nevada
Stuart Lawrence Gastwirth, a respected attorney and active civic leader deeply devoted to his family, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Friday, October 3, 2025, in Las Vegas, where he spent the final year of a life well lived. He was loved beyond measure and will be missed every day by his family and friends.
Born to Jack and Lillian (Gurchnisky) Gastwirth, Stuart grew up in The Bronx and Queens along with his younger brother, Lloyd. He attended the Bronx High School of Science, earned his undergraduate degree from Hofstra University and his J.D. from Cornell Law School. He began his legal career on Wall Street before co-founding a private law practice that specialized in real estate transactions and estate planning, where he worked until his retirement.
Stuart and his wife, Norma (Blechman) Gastwirth, were married on June 13, 1965. They settled in Great Neck, New York, to raise their three sons: Andrew, David, and Jason. Over the years they lived in Manhasset, Bridgehampton, and Wellington, Florida, before Stuart relocated to Las Vegas after the passing of Norma.
His civic involvement was a source of pride. He served actively on the PTA at Great Neck North High School, supported the Kings Point Civic Association, and led the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador program in his area.
Stuart is survived by his sons Andrew, David, and Jason; their spouses Laura, Lauren, and Vanessa; and eight grandchildren — Brian, Julia, Caroline, Michael, Sam, Chloe, Olivia, and Madison.
