She was a faithful member of Cedar Creek Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday school teacher for 25 years and was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed quilting with her friends at the church where they made numerous quilts to be auctioned for the annual Lord’s Acre Sale. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, reading and making her family their favorite foods.
Survivors include a daughter and special son-in-law: Vivian and Teddy Humphreys; great grandson, the love of her life who filled her days with joy and laughter: Peyton Humphreys and his mother, Christy Humphreys; and a special sister-in-law: Leota Bowers.
She was the daughter of the late Sidney and Addie Neas Bowers and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mayburn Collins, who passed away August 12, 1977; a special grandson, Brock Humphreys, who passed away February 7, 2013; six brothers and spouses: Furman and Helen Bowers, Denton and Trula Bowers, Marlin and Bessie Bowers, Bryson and Ilean Bowers, Austin and Louise Bowers and Lawrence Bowers; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jim and Dora Collins; and special nephews: Berlin Bowers, Kevin Bowers and Lloyd Bowers.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 8 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Harrell and Marcie Cobb officiating.
Interment will be 10 am Thursday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at 9 am Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery for the committal service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Bowers, Mike Bowers, Pete Bowers, Lowell Foreman, Donald Collins, Marlin
Collins, Dale Collins, Ricky Collins, James Rogers and Tony Rohr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron Nimick, Marvin Renner, John D. Conduff, Gary Fillers, Craig Fillers, Paul Landers, T. J. Freshour, her church family, and friends.
The family wished to express a special thanks to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice for all they have done to keep “Miss Bernie” comfortable and always fulfilled her needs. Thanks also to all in Clarbridge that took care of her with much love and compassion. Thanks to her beauticians, Joann Painter and Debbie Moore.
