

Betty Jane Moore Blake, of the Union Temple community on the Kingsport Highway, passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at Nova Health and Rehab in Weber City, Virginia. July 5 was also her birthday. She was born at home, in the Jearoldstown community, in 1938 to the late Harlie Moore and Lena Vee Vaughn Moore. Her husband, Jay Blake, only recently passed away on June 27, 2023. They shared 56 happy years of marriage and remained devoted to each other until the end.
Betty graduated from Baileyton High School in 1956. In January 1957, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for 5 years. In 1962, she was employed by Tennessee Eastman Company where she worked until 1967. At the time of her marriage in 1967, she resigned from Eastman and became a full-time farmer and homemaker. She loved genealogical research and worked for many years tracing the lineage of her and her husband's family tree. She was active in church, serving for many years as a Sunday School teacher in different churches with which she was affiliated as well as in women's groups, Bible study groups, Summer Bible School, and singing in the choir. During the years her children were in school, she was active in PTA and other school and community activities. At the time of her passing she was a member of Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which she attended as long as her health permitted.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin Blake of Kingsport, TN and Travis (Courtney Brame) Blake of Nashville, TN, her step-son Clark Blake of Columbus, OH, her granddaughters Ivy and Erin Brame-Blake of Nashville, her sisters Janis Rowell of Platte City, MO, Margaret Wood of Gray, TN, Margie Hale of Gray, TN, and Helen Hughes of Afton, TN, her sister-in-law Patsy Barnes of Crab Orchard, TN, and several beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Harlie Newton Moore Junior, and by nieces Lesa McDonald Rose and Karen Wood Underwood.
The family will receive friends at 1pm – 3pm on Monday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 3pm in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow at Union Temple Cemetery.
