

Billy (Bill) Hubert Burgess, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of Christ, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2026, at the age of 77 after a long battle with kidney and heart disease.
Bill was born on May 29, 1948 in Washington County, Tennessee. He lived 57 years in Afton with his wife. He lived a life grounded in faith, integrity, and love for others. A lifelong Christian, Bill dedicated himself to walking humbly with God, serving his church, and sharing the message of grace and salvation through Jesus Christ. He was known for his steady kindness, quiet strength, and willingness to help anyone in need.
He retired from Parker Hannifin. Outside of work, Bill found great joy in attending Church, spending time with his family, and enjoying the beauty of God’s creation. He loved fishing, riding ATV’s and enjoyed John Deere items.
Bill was a longtime member of Bridges Chapel Church of God. His faith was not only something he spoke about, but something he lived out daily through compassion, generosity, and unwavering trust in God.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Carolyn Burgess; his son: Jason (Nicole) Burgess; daughter: Tonya (Phillip) Tipton; his cherished grandchildren: Abigail Burgess, Nolan Burgess, Kendra Percell and Grace Tipton. He is also survived by his brothers: James (Carolyn) Burgess, Charles Burgess; brother-in-law: Connie (Shirley) Gaddis; many nieces, nephews and extended family; special friends: Mike and Pat Hopson and Rev. Clarence and Ruth Gammill.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents: Cecil (Margaret) Burgess and Violet Burgess and a sister: Wilma (Drew) Bailey.
Receiving of friends will be at Kiser-Rose Hill on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm with the funeral at 7:00 pm. Rev. Stephen Kimery will officiate the funeral service and Rev. Bobby Hollingsworth will officiate the graveside service at Cross Anchor Cemetery. The graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Anyone wanting to go in procession will need to meet at Kiser-Rose Hill by 1:30 pm.
Pallbearers will be: Jeff Brown, David Bowman, Frankie Ricker, Brad Sauceman, Jerry Riley and Guss Laws.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Rev. Ralph Shipley, Charlie Fellers, Edward Deyton, Connie Gaddis and Mike Hopson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Robie Hensley, Primary, Dr. Steven Reed, Cardiologist, Dr. Lara KFoury, Nephrologist, the staff at Johnson City Medical Center and the staff of Durham Hensley Rehabilitation Center.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and the assurance that Bill is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
