He retired from Greene Valley Developmental Center.
Mr. Charlton was a member of Union Temple Free Will Baptist Church.
He served 2 years with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: Stacy Charlton and Kip and Leah Charlton; one grandson: Seth Charlton; two brothers and sisters-in-law: John L. and Marie Charlton and Charles and Mary Charlton; sister-in-law: Brenda Hyatt; brother-in-law: Walter Shipley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Mack and Edith White Charlton and was preceded in death by his wife: Judy Milburn Charlton; a sister: Wanda Shipley; and a special nephew: Mark Hyatt.
The family will receive friends 5-8pm Friday at Union Temple Free Will Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11am Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Union Temple Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Oscar McAmis, Rev. Mike Young, and Rev. James Melton officiating. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kim Shipley, Jeffrey Charlton, Joey Charlton, Chris Yokley, Matthew Yokley, and Heath Charlton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Charlton, John Charlton, Walter Shipley, and Todd Shipley.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and the staff of Signature Health Care.
