

He was retired from Ball-Altrista Zinc.
Mr. Ayers was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and Bill Kennon, Brenda and Gary Waddell, all of Greeneville, Mitzi and Charles Moody of Newton, North Carolina; a son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Jewell Ayers of Greeneville; grandchildren: Kim Brown and husband, Rob, Brook DeLotto and husband, Shane, Jon Waddell, Kerria Emery, Brittany Ayers, all of Greeneville, Nicholas Gates and wife, Rachel, of Raleigh, North Carolina, Blake Gates and wife, Amy, of Hickory, North Carolina, Joe Ayers and wife, Amanda, of Sevierville, Christie Vaughn and husband, Tom, of Cumming, Georgia; thirteen great grandchildren; brother: Avery Ayers and wife, Norma Jean; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Ayers and Patsy Brooks; brother-in-law: Darrell Foulks; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Garland and Terri Harper.
He was the son of the late Grover Nelson and Laura Hensley Ayers and was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Lea Ayers; brothers, Arthur, Therian, Marvin, Bryson, L. C., and Everette Ayers; and sisters, Pansy Norton, Rose Molina and Elda Ricker.
The family will receive friends 2-8 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm Thursday, in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Linda Bass will officiate.
Interment will follow at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Jon Waddell, Joe Ayers, Nicholas Gates, Blake Gates, Shane DeLotto, Rob Brown, Tom Vaughn and Tyler Waddell.
