

She was a long-time bookkeeper for Berry and Hash Feed Store; she worked for Johnson City Chemical; and was a bookkeeper in the tobacco market.
Mrs. Bernard was a member of Baileyton United Methodist Church, where she taught the Gleaners Class and was both pianist and organist.
She was very active with the Farm Bureau Women, serving on the Board of Directors; she was a member of Cross Anchor FCE Club, Greene County Partnership, and Zion Ladies’ Aid; and she wrote the Zion Community Column for the Greeneville Sun.
She was given the Distinguished Service Award by the Tennessee Farm Bureau.
She loved gardening, playing the piano and organ, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: John and Beth Bernard of Tifton, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law: Margaret and Larry Akins of Greeneville; grandchildren: Amanda Richey, James Akins, Ashley Bernard, Kyle Bernard, and Bret Bernard; great grandchildren: Lila and Ava Richey; niece: Cora Sue Barkley; nephews: James Bryan Jones, and William and Robert Hensley; and a brother-in-law: Zirkle Hensley.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Kyle Bernard; parents: William Bryan and Cora Graham Dixon; sister and brother-in-law: Alice and Leroy Jones; sisters-in-law: Rowena Bernard and Junell Hensley; and a nephew: Leroy Jones, Jr.
The family will receive friends 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2pm Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Baileyton United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Rimmer officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the funeral service. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes at the church, preceding the service.
Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Barkley, Bryan Jones, Kent Jones, Robert Tucker, William “Dink” Gibson, Carol Pierce, Paul Ragan, Ronald Davenport, and James Davenport.
Honorary pallbearers are Farm Bureau Directors, Farm Bureau Ladies, Gleaners Class at Baileyton UMC, Margaret Saults, Doris Kilday, Joyce Kite, and members of Baileyton UMC.
