

She retired as an elementary school teacher after 34 years.
Mrs. Burchfield was a member of West Hills Baptist Church in Knoxville.
Additionally, she was a member of American War Orphans Network and was an organizer for her father’s 455th Anti-aircraft Unit including the erection of a monument on the airfield where they served in Watton, England. She was a graduate of Washington College Academy and East Tennessee State University.
As a lifelong educator, she supported teacher organizations at Midway Elementary in Jonesborough, TN, Rock Ledge Elementary in Coco, FL, Corryton Elementary in Knox County, Lansing, Michigan School District, and Cedar Bluff Elementary, Blue Grass Elementary, and A. L. Lots Elementary, all in Knox County.
She enjoyed traveling in Europe, where she met many friends with whom she kept in contact.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years: Dr. Sam Burchfield; two daughters and a son-in-law: Christina and John McSwain of Knoxville and Dr. Brittany Burchfield of Decatur, Georgia; grandchildren: Will McSwain, Morgan McSwain, and Mary Claire McSwain of Knoxville, and Landon Amorine of Decatur, Georgia; special family members: Judy Scalf of Jonesborough, Billy Scalf of Chuckey, Sandra Smith of Greeneville, and JoAnn VerWiebe of Chuckey, whom she thought of as sisters; and several other special cousins and friends in the South Central Community.
She was the daughter of the late Drew and Ruth Jones Scalf.
The funeral service will be conducted at 5 pm Saturday at West Hills Baptist Church, 409 N. Winston Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. The family will receive friends 3-5 pm at the church preceding the service. Rev. Drew Prince will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday 1-3 pm at Casi Full Gospel Church, 372 Cassi Road, Chuckey, TN 37641, with interment following at Liberty Cemetery Rev. Dr. Jim Fields will officiate.
Pallbearers will be John McSwain, Will McSwain, Dr. Bob Overholt, Bob Calloway, Rodney Franks, Garland Wilson, Tommy VerWiebe, Austin Brown, Preston Powers, and Russ Blackwell.
Honorary Pallbearers are Clay Brown, Ray Smith, Sammy Fox, and Ronnie Brown.
