

A native of Greene County, he was the son of the late E. F. and Evelyn Baxter Bowers.
He was a lifelong member of Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church and had served as ordained deacon and elder, church treasurer, and Sunday school treasurer. He also served on the Holston Presbytery Camp Committee.
He was a 1948 graduate of St. James High School. Having been drafted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he served in Frankfurt, Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1953 as staff sergeant. After his discharge, he began a ¬¬¬very gratifying career in farming, an occupation he felt was his calling in life. Following his semi-retirement from farming, he became an employee of B. T. L. Industries in 1989, where he served for more than 25 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Hugh D. Bowers, of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Doug Duncan of Greeneville; two grandchildren and their husbands, Lindsey and Brandon McCaslin, of Lebanon, and Claire and Eric Idell, of Greeneville; four great grandsons and one great granddaughter, James Mason McCaslin and Maddox Graham McCaslin, of Lebanon; Michael Cole Idell, Jackson Reid Idell, and Hadley Cate Idell of Greeneville, a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Havaux, and a nephew, Peter Max Bowers, both of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
The graveside funeral and committal services were held Saturday, June 7th at 10:00 am at Timber Ridge Presbyterian Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Christine Bohn PhD. will officiate.
