

Darwyn William Waddell, 85, lifelong resident of Greene County, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, in his home surrounded by family after a brief illness. Born on October 7, 1936, he was the son of the late William Delbert and Madge (Smith) Waddell.
He was the devoted husband of 62 years to Virginia (Self) Waddell and father to Eric Waddell. Darwyn was a 1955 graduate of St. James High School and joined the United States Navy soon after. Following naval service, he returned to Greene County to work on the family farm, and began a career at Weavexx Corporation, where he retired as Quality Assurance Manger after 42 years of service. He was a lifelong active member of Meadow Creek Presbyterian Church. Darwyn most enjoyed fishing with friends and family on Douglas Lake in the Spring, traveling which he and Virginia were able to do quite often following retirement, watching UT sports and South Greene high school basketball. His passion was working on and managing his farm in the Meadow Creek community that has been in his family for over 100 years and designated a Tennessee Century farm in 2007.
He is survived by his wife Virginia; his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Amanda Waddell of Greeneville; grandson, Brandon Waddell and his wife Cabriella Lay of Washington DC; granddaughter, Emma Waddell; brother and sister-in-law: Jack and Nancy Kilday; nieces, Pamela Kilday and Daphney Glass, Kim and Chris Dixon; great nephew and niece; Benjamin and Kristen Dixon all of Greeneville.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Delbert Waddell, mother Madge Waddell and brother Robert Waddell.
A graveside service will be held on Friday at 12 noon in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens with Rev. David Tweed and Pastor Richard Steele officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice, which assists those in need
