

He was a member of Casi Full Gospel Church where he served as a deacon.
He was a founding member of Nolichuckey Valley Vol. Fire Dept. where he was chief for 30 plus years. He retired from Washington Co. Sheriff’s Dept. after 21 years. He was a previous member of John M. Reed Foundation Board, Washington Co. Vol Fire Fighters Association, and Washington Co. 911 Board of Directors. Harmon was also employed at Moody Dunbar Inc. He was a member of Arcana Lodge #489 F & AM, Limestone #262 OES and Kerbela Shriners.
He is survived by his wife: Ruth Kyker Mathes; a brother: Leo Mathes; nieces and nephews: Jeff (Becca Arwood) Mathes, Aaron (Ashton) Kyker, Beth (William) Travis, Kala (Dylan) Edwards, Sarah (James) Murzyn; great nieces and nephews: Jeremy Mathes, Sylar Malone, Tillman Travis, Cora Travis, Kasen Edwards and Theodore Murzyn.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father: Silas and Helen Masters Mathes.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 5-7 pm Saturday at Casi Full Gospel Church, 370 Cassi Road, Chuckey, TN 37641. Following visitation at 7:00 a masonic service and order of Eastern Star service will be conducted by Arcana Lodge #489 F & AM and Limestone #262 OES.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:30 pm at Casi Full Gospel Church with Rev. Tim Broyles, Michael Brown, and Tim Jaynes officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery with Rev. Greg Davis conducting the service.
Pallbearers will be: Steve Painter, Allen Painter, Charles Baines, Patrick Ryan, Tim Humphreys, Greg Cloyd, Sylar Malone and Tillman Travis.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Washington County Sheriff’s Dept., Nolichuckey Valley Volunteer Fire Dept, other local fire departments and the Men of Casi Full Gospel Church.
