

He was a retired machinist with American Greetings and a long time employee of Pet Milk, Inc.
Mr. Whiteside was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he was on the Usher Board and a member of the Brotherhood Club. He occasionally blessed us with his beautiful voice.
He was a cut-up; always getting people to laugh and could light up a room with his infectious smile. He was the unofficial mayor of Sunset Street.
Survivors include his children and spouses: Alisa Miller of Greeneville; Barbara Miller of Chattanooga; James Jr. and Cassandria Whiteside of Fort Myers, Florida; Sonja and Brian Wheeler of Lehigh Acres, Florida; Temple and Dr. Rodney Bennett of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Jason Shoemaker of Greeneville; Roshella and Darryl Strickland of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Jeff Anderson of Greeneville; fifteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law: Treva and William Edmonds of Greeneville and Stephania Clapp of Pleasantville, New Jersey; brother and sister-in-law: Henry and Nancy Posey of Johnson City; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends: James “Doughbelly” Gudger, Lacy “Buster” Jackson, and Wayne Horton; and a special angel: Aletha Thornburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jay Whiteside and Minnie Lee Whiteside Posey, and a sister, Helen Warree Gillespie.
The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at the church with Rev. C. C. Mills, Jr. and Rev. Carl Bragg officiating.
There will be a private interment at a later date at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
