

Kathleen Mildred Myers Evans of Mosheim, 96, died Sunday morning, September 11, 2011, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. She was born February 8, 1915 to the late Elmer Charles and Bessie Myers of Greene County. She is a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she earned her degree in education. She spent several years teaching for Greeneville City before starting her second career as a bank officer at Greene County Bank. Her love for teaching others never ended, always available to help and encourage others. She was actively involved in her church, Pine Grove United Methodist, as a Sunday school teacher for thirty-seven years. She served the Orebank Community in which she lived and loved. Her community and civic activities included: Orebank Ruritan, United Methodist Women Society, West Side Garden Club, Eugenia Bewley Study Group, and the Tuesday Book Club. Upon her sister Ruby Myers Cobble’s early death, she graciously assumed the role as “mother” to her nephews and “grandmother” to her great nieces and nephews and families.
She is preceded in death by husband Dr. Graydon Evans, step son-in-law LeRoy Cavanaugh, sister and brother-in-law Ruby Myers and Hugh C. Cobble, great niece Christin Shea Cobble, and several cousins. She is survived by step-daughter Gwendolyn Cavanaugh of Tampa, Florida; nephews Dr. Douglas C. Cobble and wife Brenda of Greeneville; Donald Cobble and wife Nadine of Knoxville; Charles Cobble and wife Connie of Greeneville. Great nieces and nephews: Paula Morgan and husband Robbie of Camp Creek; Carrie Sartain and husband Jerry of Johnson City; Melissa Cobble of Greeneville; Kellie Sisk and husband Stan; Matthew Cobble; and Grant Cobble and fiancée Dusti Owens, all of Knoxville. Great-great nephew and nieces: Levi Morgan, Elle Kate and Madison Rose Sartain. She is also survived by sister-in-law Helen Shumate Cobble of Johnson City. Pallbearers are the men of Kathleen Evans’s Sunday School Class. Honorary pallbearers include: Marlene Brown, Dorothy Mays, Clarice Whittaker, Nancy Casteel, Wanda Moncier, Mary Nelle Davis and the women of her Sunday School Class. Special caregivers were Jean Blazer, Relda Capps, Wanda Malone, Ginger Ball, Jessica Lamb, and the late Laura Carter. Special thanks are given to the hospital staff on the fourth floor of Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends at Pine Grove United Methodist Church from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, with service to follow. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held Tuesday evening in the church fellowship hall prior to the funeral service. A burial service will be held Wednesday, September 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church Cemetery. Officiating ministers are Reverends Lee Campbell and Jim Fain.
