Kenneth A Bowers, 84, of Tusculum, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018, after an extended illness. He was a long-term member of the Mount Olivet Church of Christ and Greeneville Church of Christ, attending as long as his health permitted.
After graduating from St. James High School in 1952, he joined the Army. He was severely wounded on “Pork Chop Hill” during the Korean War requiring 11 months of rehabilitation in South Korean and Tokyo hospitals. After leaving the Army, he attended an electronics school in Fountain City, TN, then started as a technician with the Magnavox Co., working his way up to Superintendent of final assembly for the Jefferson City plant. After retiring from Philips Magnavox, he and his wife started Greenwood MFG, that at its height employed 25 people. He also was a former commander of the VFW post 1990 for six years.
He enjoyed family, church, eating breakfast with friends at local restaurants, raising Angus beef cattle and attending car shows with his A Model.
He is survived by son: Jackie and wife, Patricia; daughters: Teresa and husband, Robert Parker, and Pam Bowers; grandsons: Bryan (Sandy), Chris, JD (Christy) Bowers and Boddie Bible; aunts: Viola Humphreys and Pauline Solomon ; sister- in- law: Berta Vee Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years: Flossie (Flo) Bowers; an infant granddaughter: Kelly Christine Bowers; parents: Ramon and Rose Bowers; brother: Paul Bowers; sister: Betty Fillers; close friends: Art Hopson, Harry Rule, Blaine Crum, Don Johnson, Tom Justice, JC Cuttey, and Donnie Scudgington; and a very special grandfather, Holston (Pop) Solomon.
The family will receive friends 2 - 4 and 6 – 8 pm Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 8 pm in the funeral home chapel with Minister Shane Hoover officiating.
Interment will be 10 am Friday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Family and friends are asked to meet at 9 am Friday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews (Bill Solomon, Mark Bowers, Mike Fillers and Tim Shelton).
Honorary pallbearers will be JB Renner, Cecil Ellenburg, Buck Steele, Jason Southland, Joe Moore, Junior Hawk and members of the Greeneville Church of Christ and Mount Olivet Church of Christ.
The family would like to thank the staff of Durham Hensley for the care during his illness. Also, to thank the members of the Church of Christ for the love, prayers, fellowship, food and visits.
