

Lessie Mae Winter, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 84.
Preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Zelma McMahan; her son, Jimmy Winter; and her siblings: Clayton McMahan, Bashie McMahan, Jack Mathis, Lester McMahan, Pauline Tolley, and Chester McMahan. Lessie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Billy Winter; her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Whitney Winter; her four grandchildren, Dustin (Leandra) Winter, Jalissa (David) Worley, Allena Winter, and Jaxon Winter; her great-grandson, Bennett Worley, her beloved siblings: Creed (Glenda) McMahan, Roy “Bud” McMahan, Geneva Strom, and Graydon Mathis, a sister-in-law, Kathleen Solomon, and a special cousin to her grandchildren, Brayden Seaton.
Lessie was the heart of her family, and her life revolved around those she loved. She poured her time, energy, and affection into raising her children and supporting her grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to show up, cheer them on, or lend a helping hand. Holidays, Sunday dinners, and everyday moments alike were made special by her presence, and her unwavering love created a foundation of strength, joy, and comfort for her family.
Lessie worked as a cook at Ingles and Nolichucky Elementary School, where she was known not only for her delicious meals but also for her unwavering passion to ensure no one went hungry. Her dedication to nurturing others extended far beyond her career, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Lessie was a woman of deep faith, and her kindness and generosity were a testament to her love for God and her community. Her family was her greatest joy, and she created a home filled with warmth, love, and cherished memories.
The family invites loved ones to celebrate Lessie’s life on Sunday, May 4th from 4:00 – 6:00 at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home in Greeneville, TN for visitation followed by a service at 6:00. Graveside service will be Monday, May 5th at 10:00 at St James Lutheran Church cemetery. The funeral procession will begin at Kiser-Rose Hill at 9:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, marked for World Hunger, as a tribute to Lessie’s lifelong commitment to caring for others.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Winter, Dustin Winter, Jaxon Winter, Creed McMahan, David Worley and Brayden Seaton.
Lessie will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kind heart, selfless spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
