Mario Lovisa continued his journey to where we cannot yet follow him on Saturday morning on January 4, 2025, ending his suffering from cancer. Mario was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, and lived in Rhode Island and Connecticut before moving to live among the cows in Greene County. He was a certified auto mechanic, a precise antique limo driver, a volunteer firefighter who excelled in comforting his patients as certified emergency medical responder, and a team player in the mailrooms of the Greeneville Sun and Knoxville Sentinel.
Mario loved dancing in boots, unsuccessful fishing, building barn projects, and most of all exploring on his Harley. He leaves his wife and companion of over 40 years, Helen Zakewicz, brother-in-law Joseph Zakewicz (Donna), and sisters-in-law Ann Zakewicz (Sal), and Janet Zakewicz Salemi (Vincent), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He valued special friends Hannah Taylor, Kenny Beach, and Suzanne Farkas, and all his mailroom coworkers.
He was preceded in death by parents Helen Ludwig Lovisa, and John Lovisa.
Mario did not have children, except the four-legged kind, but had a special empathy for sick children, having had long hospitalizations as a child. Please consider honoring his memory with a donation to St. Jude’s Childrens’ Hospital, the Greeneville Humane Society, or just doing an extra kindness in his honor.
There will be a memorial gathering at later date.
Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
