Such a sad loss, but seems as if she had a long, full life!  I know she was a wonderful memory from my past!  I can still remember that look she gave when she lowered her eyeglasses! All knowing  but also ALL CARING! God Bless her family in their loss of a wonderful women

Mary and I knew each other all our lives from the times we spent together as children at our Grandparents Ranson. From childhood we didn't always agree on many things, but were able and willing to discuss many things, including politics, without hard feelings. I always admired her intellect, and she was always interested in my varied pursuits over the years. She was always urging me to write a story of my life, interest, jobs,travels, etc. We were both convinced that we received excellent educational experiencs at West Virginia State College (now university). My deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of Mary. She was such a presence and I know will be deeply missed. I remember her keen intellect, sharp wit, and ability to do household repairs that were beyond my green thumb farmer father's ability. She was a treasured Witt family friend.

Mary was a very special teacher!  I loved her sense of humor and wit and that look that only she could give to a student.  I enjoyed her as a teacher but also got to know her as an adult.  She will be missed.  Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Ms. House taught me at Poca High School. She was a strong teacher with a wonderful sense of humor.  I remember when she brought me the novel Centennial to read because she thought I'd like it. Prayers to her family.

When I think of favorite teachers, Mary House comes to mind.  So talented and knowledgeable, and what a sense of humor.

I can truly say she was one of a kind, she loved the kids and she taught the kids. Wish there were more like her now days. I had her in 9th and 11th grade . Was so disappointed that I didn't get her in 10th!! She knew her students , she was always on to me for talking in class to my friends.  But she also knew when something was hard for me.  In 11th grade we had to do a speech and I just couldn't do it .. I missed school on the day it was do.. Used every excuse I could .. But it came up to her telling Betty you will fail this class with out doing if!! But if you just get up and try I will pass you.   So it was the worse speech anyone could ever give but she did pass me with a D !! But she new how hard it was for me to do it and I will alway be so proud of that D!!! And love her for the kindness that she showed to me.   Really all her students... She loved teaching it showed even when she was firm she cared.  Was my favorit teacher out of all !!! I still think of her often and I will be 60 in feb.   Prayers are with her family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mary. I too had her as a teacher at Rock Branch Elementary. She taught us a finger exercise that I'll never forget. Though tough I remember her humor. RIP Mary. God bless her family.

My favorite english teacher in the 9th grade at Poca High School.

I have so many wonderful memories of Mary as my teacher at Rock Branch Elementary.  I tried and tried to guess her middle name but she wouldn't tell.  We made a deal if I could not mss any school days and get all A"s in 5th grade she would and she had to tell me but I never told anyone else. She was a great singer, artist,and teacher. Plus she loved to read Pogo to us at the end of the day. She always asked "Do you go Pogo". Had privilege to talk to her shortly before she left Poca. Will surely miss her.

My condolences to your family...I remember Miss House fondly as a favorite teacher...she was one of the "great teachers" who instilled in us a passion for learning and never let the lesson get in the way of the "teachable moment".  As a teacher myself, I try to emulate her in many ways.  I and many other graduates of Poca High are better for having known her.

So sorry to hear of Miss House's passing. I had her as my teacher at Poca High School, of all of the teachers I had all through school, she was my favorite.  She was stern but yet understanding, and very intuitive as to what we were doing, if I did something I should not have done she knew it. I admired her and if knew she genially cared about us. I wished we had more teachers like her.  Poca High School class of 1972.

Ms. House was a wonderful teacher and friend to so many students at Poca High School.  We loved talking with her and sharing stories.  My prayers are with your family.

My husband and I are saddened by this news. Our condolences go out to the family. We were so blessed to have had the opportunity to have Ms. House as a teacher. She will be missed. Rhonda Mulleins class of 79 and Brad Kersey class of 77.

Mary House was my high school social studies teacher at Poca High School. I never imagined (nor did she, I am quite sure) that I would one day be a high school social studies teacher as well. Rather than drilling us on dates and places, she always told us interesting anecdotes that were part of a great story. My condolences to her family. It pleases me to know that her final resting place will be a locale she knew and loved so abundantly. I will never forget her.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Ms.House. She was my high school social studies teacher and I respected her as a teacher and as a friend outside of school. I am glad that I was able to see her one day outside of her apartment in Poca and talk with her for awhile, she was a very smart lady and had some interesting stories to share with me. She will be missed by her family and friends.

When Ms House lived in Poca, she would visit Gino's Pizza house and would help a friend and me do crossword puzzles.  We missed her when she moved away.  I also remembered her teaching at Poca High School.  She will be missed by many.
