He retired from U. S. Navy after serving 21 years, having served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Conflict.
Mr. Hartman was a member of Hartman’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was also a 32nd Degree Mason, life member of VFW, member of American Legion and the Greeneville Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Shirley Hartman; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Newton D. Hartman, Jr. of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Robert N. and Cheryl Hartman of Bluffton, South Carolina; a daughter and son-in-law: Donna Dianne and Alexander Bell of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren: Rhiannon Dunn and husband, Andrew, Aislynn Sykes and husband, Jeremy, Gerald Hartman and wife, Tiffanny, Steven Hartman and wife, Whitney, Danielle Hartman, Amber Hall and husband, Shane, Alex G. Bell II and wife, Amy; nine great grandchildren; a sister: Barbara Ellenburg of Greeneville; a brother and sister-in-law: Eddie and Shirley Hartman of Mosheim; brother-in-law: A. J. Harmon; and several nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was the son of the late Rufus N. and Lura Honeycutt Hartman.
The family will receive friends 2-6 p.m. Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, July 27, 2013, in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with Rev. James Fain
officiating.
Interment will follow at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard and the U. S. Navy Military Honors Team will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Alex Bell II, Jeremy Sykes, Andrew Dunn, Milton Parham, Darwin Jones, Mike Seay, Timmy Hartman, and Steven Hartman.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Class #6 at Hartmans Chapel UM Church, Shane Hall, the members of PTSD Group 3: Danny Bolder, Howard Craig, Hal Glasgow, Greg Kuske, Jimmy Lakins, Ivan Lucas, Jerry Lucas, John Presley, Bob Riddle, Tully Sells, Dean Tucker and Jerry Young.
The family expressed a special thanks to the trauma doctors and nurses of Johnson City Medical Center who treated him, the staff of ER, 4th floor, 2nd floor ICU and the ancillary.
