

He was retired from Austin Company and Ragsdale Tobacco Company.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Mitzi and Jacob Cox, Margie and Charlie Starnes; a son and daughter-in-law: Perry Lynn and Geraldine Smelcer; nine grandchildren: Mark Meadows, Tim Meadows, Eric Starnes, Jessica Moneymaker, Angela Starnes, Corey Britton, Elizabeth Cox, Jake Cox, and Tomi Cox; four great grandchildren: Brock Hensley, Brooklyn Maryann Hensley, Blake Cox, and Jackson Britton; one sister: Mary Lois Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Setser and Della Myers; special nieces and nephews: Wayland and Elaine Smelcer, Mary Lou and L. C. Bowlin, Jeanne Pickering, Wayne Johnson, and David Smelcer.
He was the son of the late Lloyd and Bessie Smelcer and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Smelcer; one brother, J. C. Smelcer.
The funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011, in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Rev. Dennis Daughtery and Rev. Mark Meadows will officiate. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Kiser Rose Hill Funeral Home. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery Saturday morning for the committal service.
