He attended Fishery Elementary School in Erwin, Mount Carmel Elementary at South Central and Washington College High School in Washington County.
Mr. Moore was a member of Mount Carmel Methodist Church before moving to Detroit, Michigan in 1940. He attended Star of Hope Tabernacle, Metropolitan Assembly of God, and Brightmoor Tabernacle.
He worked for American Brass Company for 7 years and Burroughs Corporation for 35 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 3rd Army in France, and received a Purple Heart with Bronze Cluster and a Bronze Star for heroic action.
After 41 years, he returned to the beautiful hills and mountains of Tennessee in 1981. He said it “was good to be back home” and going to church at Casi Full Gospel Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon for years, and enjoyed helping build the beautiful “new church” at Casi .
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Rickey and Deborah Moore of the home; three grandchildren: Jason Moore and wife, Stacie, of Des Moines, Iowa, Rebekah Bichsel and husband, Bradley, of Phoenix, Arizona, Ericka Moore of Tennessee; six great grandchildren: Caleb, Chaim, Caden and Keria Moore, all of Iowa and Ayden and Addilyn Bichsel of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother and sister-in-law: John and Anna Moore of Chuckey; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Gloriana and Earland O’Dell and Sally and Lloyd Fleenor of Chuckey; brother-in-law: Jerry Smith of Telford; sister-in-law: Betty Moore; and several nieces, nephews and lots of cousins.
He was the son of the late Oda O. and Bitha Jones Moore and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Coates Moore; stepmother, Blanche Moore; three brothers: Eugene, Orville “OO” , and Roy Moore; three sisters, Bertha Tossava, Virginia Kyker and Carolyn Smith; two sisters-in-law, and Velma Moore and Thelma Moore.
The family will receive friends 4-7 pm Saturday at Casi Full Gospel Church and again 1-2 pm Sunday, preceding the funeral service at 2 pm at the church. Rev. Dr. Jim Fields and Rev. Shawn Broyles will officiate.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Chris O’Dell, Randy Moore, Brian Moore, Nelson O’Dell, Alex Moore, Josh Moore, Eric Fleenor and Logan Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Trader, Jon Fleenor, Kyle Moore and the members of Casi Full Gospel Church.
