She was born in Greene County. She was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, where she attended as long as her health permitted. She confessed her faith in her Lord and Saviour at an early age.
Her greatest achievement was being a mother and grandmother. It has been said many times that her purpose on earth was to be a mother. She had the greatest love and admiration from her children and grandchildren, whom she spent a lifetime guiding them with unconditional love, her laughter, strong faith, and encouragement.
She received several scholastic honors during her school years. Mrs. Jones was one of the first employees of Magnavox. She loved flowers and gardening.
She was a very strong woman of Irish heritage of which she was very proud.
Her great grandfather was Captain Daniel Ellis of Civil War fame. Her father and mother were employed by the Peavine Railroad, where they met and were married. Her father was one of the first employees hired at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Manhattan Project.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Billy Joe and Betty-Ann Jones; three daughters and one son-in-law: Sharlene and Ray Gregg, June Jones and fiancée Buddy Massey, and Brenda Jones; four grandsons and spouses: Michael R. and Susan Gregg, Derrick C. and Heather Randolph, Josh Jones, and Jeremy Jones; one great granddaughter: Rayonna J. Gregg; one sister: Flora “Polly” Harrison; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Norma and David Rader, Irene Blake, Gwondola Anderson, and Junior Reaves; and special friends: Lisa Gregg, Bob Bowser, church family, neighbors, and the caregivers of Caris Health Care.
She was the daughter of the late William Edward and Vesta Ona Reaves Ellis and was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years: Orville David Jones; son: Doyle David Jones; sisters: Donnie Mae Shelton, Mabel Ellis, and Ona Belle Ellis; and her grandson: Chad Gregg.
The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with Rev. David Rader and Rev. Doug Jennings officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Gregg, Josh Jones, Jeremy Jones, Robbie Shelton, Stephan Shelton, Larry Rader, Brian Harrison, and Rodney Spillman.
