Mrs. Lowery attended Solomon Lutheran Church as a child, later, Reformation Lutheran Church, and in her later years, Victory Church of God, as her health allowed.
Her family provided the following statement, “Mrs. Lowery was captain of her basketball team at St. James High School and maintained her love of basketball over the years. She was an avid supporter of the Lady Vols and always watched the games. She was a talented seamstress and interior decorator. Her draperies grace businesses and residences all over the southeast. Mrs. Lowery was a wonderful mom, grandmom, wife, friend, and a very special person loved by many. She was kind and gentle and never had a harsh word to say about anyone.”
Survivors include her daughter, Diana Britt of Greeneville, with whom she made her home; her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kay Lowery of Kingwood, Texas; her special grandchildren, Ben Britt of Johnson City, Roman Lowery and Heather Lowery of Kingwood, Texas. Her sister-in-law, Ruth Gibbs; her nieces and nephews, Carol Gibbs Hartman, Jeannie Rademacher, David Gibbs, Marvin Gibbs, Kathy Stewart, Mona Kern, Karen Hinsen and Chris Parman; her special caregivers, Angie Adams, Melissa Ricker, Kim Starnes, and Pat Taylor; and the staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice; and a close friend, Ellen Captio.
She was the daughter of the late Joe and Lura Gibbs and the widow of Captain C. H. Lowery who passed away on September 4, 1999. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Olsie and Woodrow Gibbs. She had a special pet, her dog, “Missy” who was her constant companion for eight years.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the Kiser Rose Hill Chapel. Rev. David Gibbs and Rev. Jim Fillers will officiate. Interment will follow in Solomon Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben Britt, Roman Lowery, Mike Garland, Lloyd Garland, Jerry Wilhoit, Kevin Wilhoit, David Gibbs, Marvin Gibbs, and Joe Gibbs.
