Vernie Smith

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law: Archie and Mattie Bowser; grandchildren: Gayle Smith White, Billy Davis, Lloyd Smith, David Baldwin, Barbara Johnson, Brenda Adams, Jamie Slagle, Raymond Slagle, Karen Baird, Nancy Goodson, Michael McGhee, Lesley Harrell, Becky Davis, Shelia Smith; 19 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; two very special great granddaughters: Makynzee White and Trinity Davis; a special great-great granddaughter: Kierstin Smith; sister-in-law: Stella Bowser; son-in-law: Harlie Slagle; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends: Betty Smith, Christine Clever, and Pam Holt.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years: Hugh Joseph Smith; five children: Betty Ruth Smith, Mary Slagle, James “Bud” Smith, Levi Smith and Wanda Baird; grandson: Tony Smith; great grandsons: Adam Sheets and Hunter White; three sisters: Lucille Morelock, Ruth Penley, and Rosella Roberts; and three brothers: Guy Bowser, Bill Bowser, and John Crenshaw.

The family extends a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 4-8pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2pm Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church on the Horton Highway. Rev. Bob Simpson and Rev. Rick Bowser will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at 1:00pm Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession to the church.

Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Zack White, Billy Davis, Lloyd Smith, Sam Bowser, James Slagle, Raymond Slagle, Scott Bowser, and Kevin Harrell.
