

He was a former employee of the Greene County Sheriff’s Dept. and was a bailiff at the Greene County Courthouse.
Mr. Blankenship was of the Baptist faith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include two stepdaughters: Linda Key and husband, Lonnie, of Greeneville and Sharon Abrams and husband, Karl, of Kansas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters: Annie Campbell of Johnson City and Mary Jo Pierce of Greeneville; one brother: Franklin Blankenship of Greeneville; sister-in-law: Edna Payne of Georgia; also survived by four children from a previous marriage: Terry Barnett, Susan McGuire, Walter R. Blankenship, Jr., and Vic Blankenship; and
several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was the son of the late A. T. and Bonnie L. Hensley Blankenship and was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Gammon Blankenship; two half-brothers and two half-sisters, all of Cherokee, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Elder Rick Tyron and Rev. Wayne Waycaster will officiate. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at Cross Anchor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Franklin Cambell, Steve Cox, Tim Blankenship, Harold Smith, Gene Smith, and Chris Key.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Greene County Sheriff’s Dept. and his friends at the Greene County Courthouse.
The family will receive friends 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Funeral Home. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery for the committal service. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
