Wilbur Grooms, 73, of Greeneville, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

He was retired from C.E. Minerals.

Born in Chavis, Tennessee, to the late Garvis Grooms, Sr. and Myrtle Jenkins, Wilbur was a Christian man who was strong in his faith. He attended Full Gospel Mission Church and was active until his health began declining. He never met a stranger and was always eager and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be missed by all that knew him. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his children: Randy (Amanda) Grooms, with whom he resided until his passing, Mary Shelton, Sammie (Amy) Willis, Terry (Melissa) Willis, Stevie Willis, all of Greeneville; grandchildren: Shannon Shelton, Tonya Lane, Samuel Shelton, Charlotte White, Natacia Kea, Evan Grooms, Pvt. 2nd Class Bishop Grooms, Andrew Grooms, Amanda Lawson, Shirley Lavern, Terri J. Hooper, Terry Willis, Chris Matthis, Ashley Wheeler, Rachel Wheeler, Chelsie Wheeler, Thomas Willis, Tracey Willis, Samantha Dean, Daniel Willis, Jamey Willis, Nicole Smelcer, Joshua Willis, Connie Sue Bowlin, Suella Willis, Stevie Willis, Cheyenne Willis, Charles Grooms and Grace Willis, all of Greeneville; three brothers: Richard Grooms of Tucson, Arizona, Jerry Grooms of Greeneville, and Garvis (Donna) Grooms of Hickory, North Carolina; seven sisters: Lena (Bob) Hawk of Grafton, Ohio, Betty (Rickey) Strange of Parrottsville, Mary (Philip) Beaver of Hildebran, North Carolina, Martha Gillenwater of Johnson City; Irene Simms of Newton, North Carolina, Grace Greenway of Newport, and Sue (Bud) Gainer of Bulluck, North Carolina; and a special friend: Betty Hensley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Eudema Grooms; two sons, Andy Grooms and Jimmy Willis; three grandchildren: Sammy L. Shanks, Savanah Willis, and Mary J. Willis; two brothers, Charles D. Grooms and Robert Grooms; and a son-in-law, Charles Shelton.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Tuesday and from 1-2 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve Merriwather and Elder Valarie Rogers officiating.

Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers and his granddaughters will serve as flower bearers.

Biography

Wilbur Grooms, 73, of Greeneville, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
