Bill Byrne was born on September 1, 1940, to James J. Byrne, Sr., and Mary Elsie Byrne of Nashville. He grew up in Nashville and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he earned a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees and a Ph.D. in Animal Husbandry.
He later earned his Doctor of Law degree at Nashville School of Law, and subsequently practiced law in Nashville, Knoxville, Newport, and Greeneville. He was also a member of the Caney Branch Volunteer Fire Company.
In 2009, he married his wife, Betty, who survives him. Other survivors include: step-daughters, Carla Basile and Casey Trammell; step-son-in-law, Jay Basile; step-grandsons, Gunner Evans Trammell and Cameron Evans Trammell; brother, James J. Byrne, Jr., and Thomas Edward Byrne; sister-in-law, Sharon (Mrs. James J.) Byrne; nephew, Joseph Byrne; nieces, Sarah Byrne and Jennifer Byrne; and several grand nephews and grandnieces.
His life was characterized by a deep and abiding love of family, and by his commitment to the highest standards of legal practice.
A Memorial Service will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Greeneville this Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Father Dan Whitman will conduct the ceremony. The church is located at 212 Mt. Bethel Road in Greeneville.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, friends who wish to remember Bill will make contributions to the Caney Branch Volunteer Fire Department, which Bill joined after moving to the Greeneville area. This organization is located at11423 Newport Hwy., Greeneville, TN 37743.
